  8.               Hanging Plants -- You can grow turnips, beets or 
  9.           carrots in an inverted position.  To prepare the vegetable, 
  10.           first, cut it in half, crosswise (save the bottom part to 
  11.           be eaten).  Then, with a corer, carve out a "well" in the 
  12.           cut side of the upper half of the vegetable, being sure not 
  13.           to cut through, either the top or side of the vegetable.  
  14.           Next, make three holes in your all-in-one 
  15.           planter/vegetable, so you can attach three cords to it for 
  16.           hanging.  After the plant is hanging, you can water it by 
  17.           keeping the well full of water.  It will sprout from its 
  18.           inverted top, and the foliage will grow upward.

  20.               Lettuce-Hedge -- And what would be more appropriate 
  21.           for your mini-garden than a green, ruffly, mini-hedge?  To 
  22.           start one, soak corn cobs in water, and sprinkle them with 
  23.           grass seed.  Next, arrange the cobs in fence-like fashion 
  24.           around your mini-garden display.  As the greenery grows, 
  25.           you can keep it sheared, just as you would a hedge.

  27.               You can also create a mound of green growth by 
  28.           planting lettuce seeds in the holes of wet sponges.  The 
  29.           young lettuce plants will form a ball of pale green foliage 
  30.           of a delicate, ruffled appearance.  In time, and with 
  31.           sufficient nutrients in the water with which you water 
  32.           them, these plants will even become large enough to provide 
  33.           lettuce for salads.

  35.               These are a few ideas.  Just remember, the next 
  36.           time you come home from the grocery store, you may have the 
  37.           beginning of a horticultural adventure in your shopping 
  38.           bag.
